With eye-popping dance techniques and gravity-defying feats requiring insurmountable strength and agility, the Virsky Ukrainian Dance Company tumbles and bounces it’s way to Irvine’s Barclay Theatre. Originating as a group of folk dancers heralded by Ukrainian ballet-master Pavlo Virsky, the Company now has 80 members and has wowed the crowds of Austria, Korea, Brazil, Germany, Greece, Ecuador (plus a dozen more countries), and is now Ukraine’s official cultural ambassador (yes, the entire ensemble). Match that dedication with their dramatic and imaginative stage show—the locked-in unison of Riverdance, the high-jumping, body-bending tricks of Circus de Soleil, even the Pinnochio-esque music—and it’s no wonder what makes this Ukrainian group so fascinating.
