The end of summer is somehow upon us. We’re unsure if it’s the consistent cloud of smoke we’ve puffed around our heads or if time really is flying faster than ever; but it feels like just yesterday we were writing about the end of prohibition in California. Apparently, eight months have flashed by us and before anyone knew it, July was over. Next thing you know it’s going to be Halloween, then Thanksgiving and then Christmas and New Years–then, BOOM it’s the beginning of the year again. If we’d known adulthood was a time warp and a constant battle of trying to stay organized, we would’ve wished on fewer stars to be “old-enough-to-do-whatever.”
At least there are cool events we can get into now that we couldn’t then. Ones that won’t only take the attention off the heat, but also help slow things down to enjoy the moments of summer before they’re over. Here are the best events in Socal for the week to get your smoketh on–or to simply immerse yourself among the wisest minds in the cannabis space.
Yellow Submarine Anniversary at the Wiltern
Get ready for a magical journey onboard one of the timeless icons of psychedelic pop culture. 50 years after its initial release, the Beatles’ classic 1968 animated feature film Yellow Submarine comes to one of LA’s greatest venues: the Wiltern. If there’s ever been a time to eat an edible or gobble down a magic mushroom this is it. Let the pre-Magical Mystery Tour take you away on a dazzling submarine of visual invention, witty dialogue and glorious songs including “Eleanor Rigby,” “When I’m Sixty-Four,” “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds,” “All You Need Is Love,” and “It’s All Too Much.”
When: Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018 from 7 p.m.
Where: The Wiltern; 3790 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, Ca
Tickets: $10 (Click here for tickets)
Introduction to Cannabinoid Therapeutics for Nurses
If you’re interested in knowing more about the science and medical benefits of cannabis STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND PURCHASE A TICKET TO THIS EVENT. It’s being hosted by Dr. Bonnie Goldstein, the world-renowned pediatrician who prescribes cannabis to children, and is on the forefront of cannabis science and medical developments. It’s worth looking her up if you haven’t. She isn’t just a hero in the cannabis space, she is the hero. The event is a bit pricey, but we can vouch from the bottom of our canna-loving hearts, listening (and hopefully meeting) Dr. Bonnie is worth every penny.
At this one-day seminar, you’ll learn about the human endocannabinoid system – a major physiologic system that regulates homeostasis throughout the brain and body, regulating memory, pain perception, appetite, mood, immune system and sleep. You’ll learn how cannabinoids – endogenous, plant-derived and synthetic – can modulate the endocannabinoid system. You will learn about the various chemical compounds in cannabis, how they impact human health, and how they are extracted and used by patients. Additionally, this course addresses clinical implications and treatment strategies, with a focus on working with both pediatric and geriatric patients. We put the latter in bold-face because seniors are the demographic who, arguably, benefit from cannabis the most and are most targetted by Big Pharma. More education needs to happen– particularly around senior cannabis use– and events like this one are one in a million.
When: Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Where: Canna-Centers Wellness & Education; 15901 Hawthorne Blvd Suite #400, Lawndale, CA 90275

If you use cannabis and this doesn’t appeal to you–nothing will, sorry.

HARD Summer
If thumping electro beats and flashing lights are your thang, then you probably already know that HARD Summer is this weekend featuring Marshmello, Zeds Dead, Flosstradamus, Rick Ross, Jaden Smith, Travis Scott, Diplo, Dillon Frances, MØ and more. You also probably know that these glowing electronic music festivals are great places to source and celebrate the herb. Just remember to take care of your neighbor, don’t bring or share flower you wouldn’t puff on and if someone looks like they need water more than you– give it to them. They probably do.
When: Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 4-5, 2018 at 1 p.m.-12 a.m.
Where: Fontana Speedway; 9300 Cherry Ave, Fontana, CA 92335
Tickets: $200 (Click here for tickets)
Hoppy Beer Fest: Soccer & Brews
Soccer and beer go together like the Flinstones and Bedrock: it’s a union that dates back to the beginning of time. This Saturday, prepare to drink all the beer you want at the first annual Soccer and Brews Beerfest. Your ticket to this event gives you access to unlimited beer tastings, more than 50 craft and import beers, limited release beers, a live Dj spinning jams, a food truck and lawn games. But the real kicker is that you get to watch OC’s USL pro-soccer team play Swope Park Rangers from Kansas City, which takes place during the Beerfest. If you’re into the beautiful game and like great beer (and partaking in both while stoned) then it sounds like we found your Saturday night festivities.
When: Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018 at 4 p.m.
Where: Championship Stadium at Great Park; 6590 Marine Way, Irvine, Ca, 92618

The Fab Four: 50th Anniversary of The Beatles Yellow Submarine
We can’t help ourselves. If you love the Beatle’s then you know the closest things we get to reliving their existence is A) watching the Yellow Submarine Movie on LSD B) Listening to Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper, the Magical Mystery Tour or Rubber Soul with noise canceling headphones in your ears, staring up at the clouds and laying out in a strawberry field (perhaps on a microdose of psilocybin) and pretending you were there C) Watching a cover band imitate our psychedelic musical heros in Costa Mesa under the influence of cannabis. We suck at multiple choice tests, but D) all-of-the-above might be the best selection– because the Fab Four doesn’t come around to play Yellow Submarine in full often. It must be a full moon.
When: Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018 at 8 p.m.
Where: Pacific Amphitheater; 88 Fair Dr, Costa Mesa, California 92626
Tickets: $16 (Click here for tickets)
