It appears there’s no immediate end to the mobile food craze—and now there’s a new festival taking form. Instead of a large parking lot playing host to a handful of food trucks, Halecrest Park will be the site of a food cart festival. Take away the desert and naked people from Coachella, but keep the beer, food and live music, and you have the first annual Cartchella. Confirmed carts include Board and Brew Sandwiches, Coolhaus, Baby’s Badass Burgers, The Classic Hot Dog Cart, I Cater BBQ, Rasta Taco, and Tropical Shave Ice. Local musicians like Pilot Touhill, James Ide and Kevin Smith will be holding up the music end of Cartchella, and all net proceeds from the event benefit the Kaiser Woodland Schools Foundation in Costa Mesa.
