Rarely does a children’s story strike a successful balance between the harsh realities of the life and the sugary sweetness of schmaltz. Charlotte’s Web is one of those rare exceptions, and it does it with expert aplomb. Penned by E.B. White, the tale focuses on a pig who escapes the butcher’s blade with the help of a resourceful spider and starts an unlikely friendship in the process. This week, the Laguna Playhouse presents a musical version of the beloved story about unconditional love in the face of life’s darkest experiences.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 1 N 5 p.m. Starts: Nov. 12. Continues through Nov. 21, 2010
