Everyone remembers watching their first kung-fu movie. Those American voices over mismatched lip movements and displays of superhuman strength and agility left us all begging our parents for lessons in kung fu, karate, tae kwon do, something . Since few ever made it past that little yellow belt, we can all truly respect the extreme amount of dedication and effort it takes to become a true martial artist like the Shaolin Disciples from Henen, China. These masters of Chinese tradition and culture will display their breathtaking acrobatics, contortions, kung fu and quigong (the process of harnessing energy so the body can withstand the pain of spears, beds of nails, and steel bars being broken over their heads) all before a live audience. Relive your childhood fantasies and see Jungua: Descendants of the Dragon this weekend. Just don’t run out and ask your friends to beat you with sticks afterward. Leave that to the professionals.
