It’s tough for Americans to experience culture shock anymore. With all of the media modes, communication devices and technology enhancements in place, we’ve practically seen it all from tea parties to lemon parties and everything in between. But when Prince Akeem leaves his palace in Zamunda for a shanty Queens apartment in the film Coming to America, we, the relentless consumers of mass media, get the chance to experience American life in the late ‘80s through the eyes of a comical outsider. Directed by John Landis and starring Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall, this fish-out-of-water comedy is as entertaining as it is funny and worth experiencing if you aren’t too busy tweeting.
