“[The Dana Point Headlands real estate development] project provides more coastal and direct beach access than any other project in the history of Orange County.”
–Real estate developer Sanford Edward in a 2003 successful attempt to convince a wary public to support his exclusive gated community housing and commercial project on the last major undeveloped beachfront property in OC. On Feb. 15, Los Angeles Times reporter Tony Barboza wrote that with the project completed public beach access in the area is now restricted to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and that Edward refused to be interviewed about the limitations. In fact, Barboza says Edward hung up on him. The Pacific Ocean at the Headlands is popular with surfers–some of whom would probably like to surf before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
