Dear world: why can't we have more events where barbecue is the main attraction and not just complementary food? Well, thank goodness the Dana Point State Barbecue Championships are happening this Saturday. 100 of the top barbecue-cooking teams from California, Utah, Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona will cook off for the prospect of being named state barbecue champion and a share of $30,000.

Categories the teams will be competing in are chicken, ribs, brisket, pork, and dessert. Non-competitors can sample meats from the quite-possible-award-winning vendors at the bargain price of $2 per sample (and–cool fact–will benefit the organization Dana Point Veterans of Foreign Wars). If you wanna take a break from the barbecue contest, grab a cold beer and check out the live music acts. Admission is free and the event starts at 10 a.m. Have fun!
The event is located at Sea Terrace Park, 33410 Pacific Coast Hwy, Dana Point. To learn more, visit the contest's official website.
