A Los Angeles Police Department officer has been charged with child abuse for repeatedly striking a teen relative so severely for misbehavior and poor grades that it left welts and bruises.
Daniel Hun Chun, 39, had an arraignment hearing Friday that was continued to May 6 at the North Justice Center in Fullerton.

A school counselor noticed the boy's wounds and contacted police, prosecutors add.
Chun is charged with felony child abuse and felony corporal injury on a child and faces up to six years in state prison with a conviction.
