Actor of TV, film and stage, song and dance, sometime political activist (Bernie Sanders supporter!) and author, Dick Van Dyke turns 90 this week. A jolly fan cult celebrates the career of the man who played comedy writer Rob Petrie, Mary Poppins’ iconic chimney sweep pal, a crime-solving physician and a Tony, Emmy and Grammy award winner for Bye, Bye Birdie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and the wildly underrated The Comic, his homage to Stan Laurel. Van Dyke has lately been tribute subject of flash mob performances and character look-alike competitions so no surprise that there’s a fan-produced bespoke birthday party at—where else—The Magic Kingdom. Totally unofficial, but the Facebook event page promises Van Dyke will be in attendance, and encourages dressing as a sweep or your favorite Van Dyke character.
