Indie-glitch recording artist Dntel (a.k.a. producer Jimmy Tamborello) will be stopping by to play some metro licks on Aug. 2 at Detroit Bar. It will be just in time for him to promote the 10th-anniversary reissue of his debut album, Life Is Full of Possibilities, which Pitchfork Media reported today will be reissued in October by Sub Pop as a two-disc set.

The song “(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan” was on this album and featured a four-on-the-floor dance beat backing the whispy-fem warble of mega-sensitive Death Cab for Cutie front man Ben Gibbard. It was from the loins of this collaboration that the immensely popular Postal Service sprung.
But when it comes to reissues, we usually roll our eyes and yawn. There's something about the whole thing that reeks of a moneymaking marketing gimmick–do people really need to shell out hard-earned greenbacks for a collection of songs recorded in the post-millennial digital age only to be tweaked digitally a few years later? Sorry, but the potential of hearing “bonus material” — such as outtakes featuring Gibbard asking the engineer if he can take the high end out of the mic — just isn't an enticement.
But it appears Sub Pop will be throwing music fans at least one tasty little bone–the reissue will be available on vinyl, streched out over two 45 rpm albums — the first time the release will be available in that format. Hey, it probably won't mean a big difference in the sound quality, but the collectibility variable will be in effect. Thank you, Sub Pop. You're too kind.
