Leimert Park rapper Dom Kennedy has been tipped to blow up for maybe two or three mixtapes now—from last year’s From The Westside With Love to this spring’s The Original Dom Kennedy—and now with this summer’s From The Westside With Love II, featuring guest verses from Asher Roth and the Cool Kids’ Mikey Rocks. Will the third time be the charm? Highlight tracks “Grind’n” and “When I Come Around” are stretched-out slo-mo takes on classic LA g-funk, with Kennedy explaining just who he is and what he does (with aplomb that comes from experience). Forgive him that if you already know—every time he puts one of these out, he gets a whole ton of new people he’s got to bring up to speed.
