Dr. Robert Small knows a thing or two about ice cream, although I know him first as a professor at Cal Poly Pomona.
When I turned 21, my birthday gift to myself was registering for his Wine and Spirits class (age requirement was the only prerequisite); it was the most popular elective on campus, and the only one I was aware of where all majors were represented. Go figure.

We received word that his small batch desserts achieved Today Show status by being featured in a list of all-American gifts for foodies. In business since 1999, Dr. Bob's drool-worthy flavors include Scharffen Berger Really Dark Chocolate and Brown Sugar Pecan.
