Watch out this weekend: Tonight (that’s Friday, Sept. 20), Tustin Police will run a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint at an “undisclosed location” in Tustin from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. And on Saturday, Sept. 21, Garden Grove PD will operate a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint somewhere in that city from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Irvine PD will also operate a checkpoint on Saturday, in the area of Culver Drive and Campus Drive. That checkpoint will start at 8 p.m. and shut down at 2 a.m.
In 2018, the Tustin Police officers “investigated 63 DUI collisions which have claimed 2 lives and resulted in another 22 injuries,” stated a Sept. 11 Tustin PD news release.
“Over the course of the past four years Garden Grove PD officers have investigated over 650 DUI collisions which have claimed 15 lives and resulted in over 300 traffic related injuries,” stated a Sept. 18 news release from that department.
All the checkpoints are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
