Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino is so relatable it hurts: She likes cats, she's passionate about ending sexism in the music industry, and she's cool—but not in a narcissistic kind of way.
“I think I'm pretty cool. I think I'm a good friend. I think I'm a good girlfriend. I think I'm a good daughter. I'm confident, I am.” She once told LA Weekly. “But I don't know why in the world NME would say I'm the fourth coolest person in the world…”
But there's also a dark side. Cosentino has publicly spoken about her struggles as someone diagnosed bipolar II with anxiety, ADHD, and depression. She attributes exercise as an activity that helps subside her overly-active brain.
“I think part of why the aesthetic of Best Coast has always been so California-centric, and everything is covered in palm trees and the sun and the beach and shit, is because I lack so much of that vibe in my personality,” the singer-songwriter told Vice.
Best Coast will be performing a two-night stint at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery with CHVRCHES on October 3rd and 4th. Their latest album California Nights features the self-titled song, “California Nights”, “Heaven Sent”, and “Feeling OK”.
