It's National Donut Day! (Or to Homer Simpson, it's just another Friday.) This isn't simply another Twitter-fueled food holiday–today marks the 75th anniversary of the carb-laden celebration. The day was created by the Salvation Army as a fundraiser to honor WWI's “donut lassies,” the women who made doughnuts in metal helmets to bring comfort to American soldiers.
