I had no idea that crepes and beer went together so well until I paid a visit to Rockin’ Crepes (*guitar riff*) in Huntington Beach. I looked at the beer menu online and was very impressed, and then I looked at the crepe menu—YIKES! Over 40 different of crepes: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, all named after your favorite rock bands. It’s a small venue but that lends itself to a cozy atmosphere. The bar is on the right and seats about 16 in a tight horseshoe shape; The left side is for restaurant seating ,jukebox playing your favorite rock n’roll, with some blues and the occasional country jam. They even has a Pay It Forward Board—you buy me a beer, they write your name; Gustavo pays it forward to the Butcher with some KBS 2016. BOOM! How cool is that! m/
The beer list is phenomenal: 34 brews, some rarely seen anywhere. I started with Dogfish Head Romantic Chemistry. At 7.2% ABV, with mango and peaches, it gives this IPA a subtle tropical feel, with clean aftertaste. And because you just don’t see these beers on tap too often, I had to try Dogfish Head’s Miles Davis Bitches Brew 9.0% ABV Imperial Stout, originally brewed in 2010 on the 40th anniversary of Miles’ breakthrough album, Bitches Brew. Very dark, great taste from the chocolate and coffee notes. Also smooth something Dogfish Head does better than anyone.
Finally, Founders KBS 2016 12.4% ABV Imperial Stout. Cave-aged in oak bourbon barrels for an entire year. A very limited amount released, yet Rockin’ Crepes (*guitar riff*—okay, I’ll stop n ow) is pouring this and the 2015 version right NOW. I took my first sip slowly and savored every flavor: chocolate, coffee, vanilla giving way to oak barrel and then bourbon. After my third sip, I could feel the 12.4% ,and it felt so good. This isn’t a dessert stout it’s the Main Course! (*”Freebird triple-solo, mother fuckers!*)
