I don’t know if Harley Rouda will be one of the two candidates in the 48th Congressional District race to advance beyond the June 5 primary, but the Laguna Beach businessman has so far won Funniest Campaign Advertisement honors.
That’s because the Democrat’s campaign just posted “Rouda vs. Rohrabacher Debate: Moderated by Jason Alexander.”
Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) is the 30-year member of Congress who first ran as an advocate of term limits but is, of course, seeking reelection in the 48th, which covers much of coastal Orange County.
Alexander is the talented actor and song-and-dance man who is best known for playing the forever frustrated George Costanza on Seinfeld.
The ad has Alexander, as himself, moderating a mock debate between Rouda, who stands at a podium facing the actor, and Rohrabacher, who is seen on a screen.
As the moderator explains, the congressman is “joining us via a secure server in Moscow.” For those who have not been playing along at home, Rohrabacher previously earned the label “Putin’s favorite congressman.”
I don’t want to spoil the rest of the ad, which touches on everything from climate change to immigration to dinosaur farts, because you really should check it out for yourself.
