What more really needs to be said about Green Day? Every member of the pop-punk three-piece is pushing 40, yet this decade they’ve still been more relevant than most bands half their age. As all children of the ‘80s know, Green Day first charted in 1994 with their mega-hit Dookie. Ten years and more than 50 million albums later, they hit pay dirt again with American Idiot, which received both critical acclaim and runaway commercial success. How influential have they been? Pick any popular rock band from the late ‘90s or early ‘00s that wasn’t in some way influenced by the boys from Berkeley. The band still puts on a pretty good rock show, too, with plenty of pyrotechnics and front man Billie Joe Armstrong pumping the crowd up with his on-stage theatrics.
