In stark contrast to the fuel scorching and fried food bonanza happening at the Grand Prix, just up the road is a different, greener sort of gathering. The Green Prix of Long Beach spotlights urban farmers, sustainably-minded local chefs, green artists and local environmental organizations. Free to attend, the Green Prix is held on Pine Ave. (between the 600 and 800 blocks) and features vendors, food trucks, live entertainment, sustainability-related films, kids activities, and organic beers and microbrews. The Green Prix people want to make this an annual tradition, focusing on the leafier side of Long Beach during Grand Prix weekend—and maybe even help launch the first Solar Car Race in the near future.
