Greg Beville Leads Comikaze Panels Before His Blackstar Canyon Film and Comic Book Wrap

A filmmaker working on a film and comic book about the “misadventures” he has experienced in Orange County's “haunted” Blackstar Canyon will be participating in three panel discussions at Comikaze at the Los Angeles Convention Center beginning Halloween afternoon.

On Friday, Greg Beville says he will moderate the panel for Phil Tippett's Mad God Part 1 from 3-4 p.m. in screening room 406AB.

Beville gets to be the one getting grilled from 6-7 p.m. Friday in room 303AB, where the Comikaze topic will be his Blackstar Canyon film and comic book. He'd mentioned months ago that Rob Burnett, producer of Hills Run Red, would be the moderator but the scheduled may have changed.

Sunday will be truly special for Beville.

That's when he'll be back in the moderator chair for the director's cut of Clive Barker's 1990 slasher flick Nightbreed. Panelists from noon to 1 p.m. in screening room 406AB include producer Mark Miller and restoration editor Andrew Furtado.

The Blackstar Canyon projects “are loosely based on some scares I have had from 2002-2006 in the haunted canyon,” Beville explains.

Filming is scheduled to begin next spring not in Blackstar Canyon but Lake Forest for permitting reasons. At least Orange County will get its closeup one way or the other.
