UC Irvine might have just lost its biggest banh mi purveyor, but it may have just gained a place to get koobideh. Hen House Grill–which currently roosts at an often ignored location next door to Wholesome Choice in Irvine but produces one of the best koobideh and rice plates in the city–is opening a new outlet at a currently vacant spot near Strickland's Ice Cream.

The stencil on the blackened window says it'll open sometime this year. Let's hope it debuts sooner than a planned Mexican joint called Costa Vida steps away, which seems to have been stuck in development for the better part of two years.
