If you are hungover for whatever reason, do not—we repeat, do not find yourself anywhere near the Claire Trevor Theatre this Wednesday evening. Tonight is Henka, the 2013 Spring Concert from Japanese drumming group Jodaiko. Their name alone means “passionate drumming” in Japanese, and this astonishingly talented group of young people based on the UCI campus fully embraces the tradition and skill of the art of Taiko (meaning “wide drum”). As much performance art as drum-based symphony, Jodaiko moves in perfect unison, flowing traditional movements and powerful, fiery beats. It's loud. It's fervent. It's not for the faint of heart, but probably alright for the hard of hearing.
