We're No. 1! We're No. 1!
Oh, wait.
Huntington Beach ranked first among California cities in its size category in 2009 alcohol-involved collisions per capita, according to data released this month by the state's Office of Traffic Safety. That year, 195 victims were killed or injured by drunk drivers in the city, the report reveals. Numbers for 2010 have not been released.
Surf City has been in the top 10 in this category for the past decade. The latest report puts it above 55 other cities with a population between 100,000 and 250,000.

City officials have been scrambling to address the issue. They've adopted new
tactics, like tracking the locations where
drunk-driving suspects had their last drink and confronting managers
whose establishments may be overserving patrons.
Last month, the City
Council voted down the idea of posting mugshots of repeat DUI offenders on its Facebook page. Interesting. News of the No. 1 ranking hasn't made it up there yet. . . .
