IAMX—the solo project of Sneaker Pimps’ Chris Corner—is a true D.I.Y. effort. Corner says he’s gone independent and without a label since 2006, and many of his shows contain self-made costumes, props, and video art. This means greater originality on stage–fitting for IAMX’s unique blend of synth-rock and dark pop, which shouldn’t sound danceable but it can be. Songs explore the subjects of bisexuality, androgyny, sex, narcotic intoxication, and politics, which will tell you exactly how theatrical his performances are. IAMX has released six albums so far, the latest being Metanoia (2015), which is based on a dark period in Corner’s life.
