You might have noticed that ice cream has been stuffed into everything but cones lately. Two years ago, it was donuts a la Afters, but it has since also found its way sandwiched between macarons at such dessert shops as Oh Oui! Pâtisserie and tucked into sweet hot dog buns at Honeymee.
Churned Creamery—which Anne Marie mentioned in an earlier update of new stores coming to Tustin’s Union Market—has revealed via Instagram that they will stuff their ice creams into fresh-made butter croissants. They’re calling them CroCreams.
As far as the ice cream itself, Churned will use special Italian churning machines that output the ice cream for serving straight from the spouts. There will be 20 house-made flavors in all, including Banana Nut, Black Forest Cake, Hemp, Panna Cotta, Tiramisu, Whiskey & Cream, Peanut Butter & Jelly, and Crème Brûlée.
The shop is still under construction as we speak, but last week they held open interviews and is currently hiring. As for the rest of us who’d rather eat the ice cream than make it, the anticipated opening date will most likely be sometime next month.
More news on this here as it comes.
