The Godfather of Punk has teamed up with the King Badass of the Dessert to form Post Pop Depression. This week we learned Iggy Pop and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme have secretly collaborated on Iggy’s seventeenth studio album.
Iggy, known for his shirtless, wild stage antics, has endured an arduous career. Only in interviews have fans been able to see past his stage persona to observe an calculating artist who is very serious about his craft.
“This job is a masquerade of recreation,” Iggy told The New York Times. “You’re working hard. You’re in a panic for half of your life. You’re under constant stress, you have no security, you’re not sure if anybody really likes you anyway.”
Post Pop Depression (to be released March 18) also includes guitarist/keyboardist Dean Fretita (Queens of the Stone Age, Dead Weather), guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age), bassist Matt Sweeney (Skunk, Chavez), and drummer Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys). The supergroup already released two singles, “Break Into Your Heart” and “Gardenia.”
“There won’t be hardly any shows, and they won’t be in big places, and you won’t be able to get a ticket,” Homme told The New York Times. “So almost everyone won’t see it. It will be like trying to catch smoke in your hands. And that makes it even better. It will be special, and it will be over in the blink of an eye.”
If you’re lucky, you can catch the duo at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on April 28. Tickets go on sale to the general public tomorrow, Saturday, January 29 at 10 AM.
