As the days start to warm up, we’re looking for ways to cool off and what better way than dining al fresco at Angelina’s Pizzeria Napoletana’s newly remodeled patio? Their wood-fired pizza alone is reason to trek to Irvine, but with a new series of Italian food and wine pairings, there’s no reason to leave the refreshing outdoor patio that transforms into an intimate destination for dinner.
Hosted by Angelina’s owners, Filippo and Sho Fusco, the “Food & Wine Society” events will be held once a month and by invitation only to members. “Our goal is to introduce different elements of the Italian cuisine to our guest and let them explore their taste buds with quality imported ingredients that take you back to specific regions,” says Sho Fusco.
Wines are thoughtfully paired with beautiful platings that change with the seasons, though there are some favorites that remain constant. The Crostini di Prosciutto e Burrata (toasted crostini topped with prosciutto and creamy burrata from Puglia) is a must and goes great with a chilled Calfuria Rosato, indicative of the unique and hard-to-find wines from the featured winemaker.
Sho says that in order to become a member you must attend a minimum of six events per year. “Our membership will cap out at 300, those who join early will have a chance to be a part of the culinary experience in preparation for our new center in Costa Mesa which will host wines from all around the world.”
The back patio, bathed in warm, golden candle light, seats 55 guests, making it one of Irvine’s best-kept secrets for a perfect summer evening.
