The conservation activist has raised awareness of water-quality and endangered-wildlife issues around the world, but this time the “Eco-Warrior” is sticking close to home. His nonprofit distributes gloves and bags from 9 a.m. to noon at: Quiksilver Boardriders Club on Forest Avenue downtown; CA Paddle and Surf at South Coast Highway and Cleo Street; and SUP Co. at South Coast Highway and Oak Street.

Participants then take the gear with them across the highway to the sand and start picking up debris. To further sweeten the deal, Quiksilver Boardriders Club, which has adopted Main Beach, offers a 30 percent discount to all volunteers Saturday.
