Some restaurateurs are betting you probably don't, which is why four cities in our humble county are using January, usually the slowest time in the restaurant biz, to offer discounts to get you back into spending. As with everything, some deals are better than others; but here's the breakdown:

- Newport Beach's Restaurant Week
is scheduled for January 20-29 with restaurants prix-fixe gourmet menus
at tiered price points of $10, $15, or $20 for lunch and $20, $30 or
$40 for dinner. Check here for the list of participating restaurants.
- San Juan Capistrano will celebrate its founding in 1776 with a few restaurants offering set meals for, wait for it, $17.76. Check here for the list when it becomes available.
