Typically regarded as a den of Pabst-swigging punk purism, Avalon Bar is shaking things up every third Thursday with Jelly Roll—a howling, all-night party where booze and the blues collide. Music of masters like Junior Kimbrough, Muddy Waters and Skip James commingle inside the walls of a dimly-lit, soulful juke-joint setting plastered with photos and posters of blues legends, offering a much needed history lesson while you’re taking a breather from the dance floor. Anticipate a night of rare tunes courtesy of DJs Brother Cecil (aka DJ Oldboy) and Urethra Franklin as well as live music from local blues man Parker Macy and more.
