We always thought there was way more to Jenny Lewis than the press cared to grant her—even back on her first solo album, there were moments of honesty and personality that almost hurt to hear, and even on her Jenny and Johnny LP you find songs that would have been total rageful, righteous stormers with punker production—except that kind of obviousness is so tacky, right? (Remember when the Clash teamed up with Ellen Foley? Like that with some cheerfully real outlaw ’70s LA ass-kickery.) “I don’t believe in sucking your way to the top,” she sings out to the whole wide world, and that’s that. Acoustic-ish show here but there’s no way she doesn’t have some strong stuff in store for the future.
