About this time, every year, someone out there like me writes
an article about how the Japanese have made eating KFC a Christmas tradition as
we have made eating roast turkey and stuffing. I know this because I tried to
write one last year only to be informed by our web editor that she already
wrote one the year before.
Go ahead and Google “Japan Christmas KFC” right now and you'll
see not just an article on Japan's peculiar holiday eating predilection on Smithsonian's
blog published last week, but also news snippets about how Japan Airlines is
actually serving KFC on their flights during the Christmas season. They started
December 1st and will continue until the end of February.

Now there's news that Japan KFC is holding a contest for
Japanese lovers of the Colonel to win an all-expense-paid trip to the KFC restaurant in Onobaru,
Osaka for an “All-You-Can-Eat Chicken Tour”. The contest is NOT open for anyone
living outside Japan, or to KFC employees or their relatives, and requires the contestant
to tweet a tweet with a particular contest Japanese hashtag. But according to RocketNews24, the winner
will “have their major travel expenses and one night's stay at a hotel
covered.”
There is no indication they will reimburse the victor on the
Mylanta.
