Ex-OC resident Richard Swift makes a humble home studio sing and Silverlake’s Kissing Cousins sing songs that find the heartache in every dream home—and together they made KC’s debut full-length Pillar Of Salt into a precise and striking album. There’s a little Holly Golightly, a little Dirty Three, PJ Harvey, maybe a little Morphine—except flute and not sax—and a lot of space between notes that makes you think of those nights when the starless sky perfectly matches the lightless ground. This one’s a slow-burner in every way you’d hope for.
