Trickling down from Los Angeles’ steady stream of all-the-rage cabaret/variety shows (hey, El Cid, we still miss “Below the Belt”), there’s a brand new happy hour at the Basement Lounge in Long Beach. Brought to you by Derrick Brown and poetry veteran Mindy Nettifee, the “Lightbulb Mouth Radio Hour” is every bit eccentric and delightfully random as its name suggests—and perfect for the hipster clientele the Basement has decided is its new demographic. They’ve got spoken word readings and poetry slams, live music, off-the-wall skits and other tasty little surprises. If you can find parking, it’s a great way to spend a Wednesday night.
