Lilith In Trouble

LILITH LOOKING FOR FREE LABOR
Apparently, Sarah McLachlan’s all-female music festival Lilith isn’t doing well. The tour is quietly cutting dates from its schedule; shows in Phoenix and Nashville have been canceled, and Norah Jones’ management announced that her appearances on five dates have been nixed. Maybe that’s why they’re holding a contest for a “social media ambassador.” In truth, it sounds like Lilith is just looking for free labor. What does a “social media ambassador” do, anyway? Tweet and photograph what’s going on during each show in return for media and photo passes, press-conference access, backstage access, and, “most important, represent the global Lilith community.” The catch? All applicants must use their own smart phones for sending and receiving e-mails and taking photos. Talk about the ultimate in crowdsourcing! Lilith isn’t accepting applicants for the Irvine stop on July 10 yet, but additional “ambassador” cities will be announced weekly. Let’s just hope it doesn’t get canceled before you get a chance to tweet about it. From a June 25 Heard Mentality blog post.

MATT COSTA’S NEW ALBUM
It has been more than two years since the release of Matt Costa’s second studio album, Unfamiliar Faces, with its infectious lead single “Mr. Pitiful.” But now the Huntington Beach resident has finally announced plans for his third full-length, titled Mobile Chateau, due out Sept. 21, along with a fall tour. The album was recorded at Santa Ana’s Pheasant Studios, and the production was done with Costa himself at the helm.

He promises the new record will be a “distinct departure” from his previous work, leaning toward what the press release calls “’60s psychedelic superheroes” before name-checking Donovan, 13th Floor Elevators, the Zombies and the Electric Prunes. “I’ve always been drawn to that sound,” Costa reveals. “I’ve been hearing songs like these in my head for my whole life, and Mobile Chateau is the closest I’ve gotten to getting those songs out of my head and onto a record.”

There are no OC dates for Costa’s fall tour yet, but he’s at the Casbah in San Diego on Oct. 7 and the Troubadour in LA on Oct. 13. From a June 24 post by Vickie Chang.

BUSH TO REUNITE IN FONTANA
Mr. Gwen Stefani’s band Bush just announced their first live show in eight years. Gavin Rossdale and company will be performing at Epicenter Twenty Ten, taking place in Fontana on Sept. 25 and 26. While Fontana doesn’t sound as glamorous (or played-out) as a Coachella reunion, Epicenter at least threw in some of Bush’s ’90s contemporaries—such as Blink-182 and Eminem—on the festival lineup.
