It’s that very special time of the year when high-school choirs sing, Santa paddleboats into the Back Bay and the switch connected to all those abstract Christmas tree-shaped armatures gets flipped—yes, around here, it isn’t really the holiday season 'til the Bay gets Lit. (That’s what happens when you can’t count on the leaves to change color, or the trees to even have those kind of leaves.) The festivities start in the afternoon with sledding and Santa amid 30 tons of just-for-the-occasion snow, followed by two hours of wholesome musical entertainment that culminates in the switch-flipping. And then there’s a screening of The Polar Express to gently calm you down, with free s’mores and hot chocolate, too! Stake out your spot and stick it (via social media showoffery, of course) to all the poor suckers in the polar vortex back east!
