Today is the day that Long Beach's giant donut, the pink donut sign that stands over the former Daily Grind on 7th street, gets taken down. It's been standing there since the 50s, when it was erected by the now gone Angel Cake Donut.
Look at it, it's such a sad sight.

The Daily Grind is closing to make way for one of the franchises in Dunkin' Donuts' new California expansion. The Long Beach Dunkin' Donuts is scheduled to open before the end of the year.
Don't be too sad though, the latest reported plans are to reincorporate the donut in the building once the construction is finished, thanks to the efforts by the Save The Giant Donut campaign and several Long Beach merchants.
But until happens, 7th Street is just going to be a little sadder.
