Long Beach's Roe Restaurant To Make A Comeback

You might remember Belmont Shore's Roe Restaurant N Fish Market, a seafood joint that opened in 2012 to rave reviews but had to revert to serving its food out of a truck when renovations on its building hit roadblock after roadblock.

Roe finally folded last year after the retrofits to get the building up to code went nowhere. Its owner and chef Arthur Gonzalez re-emerged with the excellent, New Mexico-inspired Panxa Cocina, a restaurant he was developing as Roe's fate was stuck in bureaucratic hell.

Now Roe Restaurant is poised to make a comeback in its old spot at 5374 E. Second St. with Gonzalez as a chef-consultant and a new investor in Rod Frontino, owner of Dogz Bar and Grill.

According to the Long Beach Gazette, who broke the story, Roe plans to reopen in two stages. In about a month, a corner fish market and take-out restaurant will open, which is what the first incarnation of Roe was.

Then six months later, the full-service restaurant is planned to finally debut after a “multi-million dollar renovation.”
