The Maverick Theater kicks off its 2014 season with a golden classic: the 1957 Pulitzer Prize winner and Best Play Tony Award recipient Long Day's Journey into Night. When playwright Eugene O'Neill gave his autobiographical story to a publishing company back in 1941, he insisted that it not be made into a play until he died. Perhaps O'Neill was nervous about critics' reactions—or perhaps he just didn't want the attention because three years after his passing, Long Day's Journey into Night hit Broadway to massive acclaim and won the Pulitzer. The play follows a single day in the life of aging thespian James Tyrone, and gives audiences an intimate look at his disturbing family history.
