Makeup for St. Paddy's

Everything's better when you add a little Irish spice to it—Van Morrison on a lonely night or Bailey's in your coffee morning, noon and night. And with a certain holiday celebrating the cultural heritage of the Land of Saints and Scholars coming up, you'll have all the more reason to Irish it up.

That said, I struggle every St. Patrick's Day to find outfits that are both green and flattering. This year, I'm forgoing that struggle and opting to accessorize instead. One of the easiest and prettiest ways to dress up is to play with green in your makeup routine (because we need another excuse to hit up Sephora, right, ladies?). Here are some fun things to try:

Urban Decay's Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in “Stagedive” takes a bold, green eye to a new level with this incredibly sparkly liquid eyeliner ($18). Smooth the liner over a sultry eyeshadow paired with a more neutral shadow (Nars has a beautiful emerald-and-taupe duo for $34).

Sephora and Pantone Universe have teamed up and recently released a whole line of cosmetics in what they've dubbed “the color of the year.” You'll find a nail polish, brush set, liquid eyeliner, jumbo eyeliner, eyeshadow and more all in emerald. The mascara could potentially be the most fun to play with on St. Paddy's Day.

Why let your face have all the fun? The new Colorsmash Hair Shadow is perfect for popping in some green streaks or tips that wash out after a night of drinking green beer. It comes in a round eyeshadow-like case; rub it in generously with your fingers, then set with hairspray.

Because nail art's all the rage these days, why not do something a little more adventurous than plain green polish? Dramatic makeup house Illamasqua makes creating art über-easy with its new speckled nail varnish. The polish imitates the speckles of a bird's egg in five different colors—grab a bottle of “Mottle,” and you're good to go!

Now you'll have no excuses for getting pinched on St. Patrick's Day. Unless you're into that sorta thing. . . .
