Trumpeter Mark Hix and his Big Band have been a fixture at Steamers since 1995, and they haven’t lost any of their enthusiastic bigness. This time around, you’re on the second of two Mondays in a row with Hix and his crew, who during their storied Steamers tenure have absorbed members of big-name combos from Orchestras Count Basie to Brian Setzer and Bands from Chick Corea to Disneyland. New-ish vocalist Meloney Collins does an adorable “Satin Doll” and Hix keeps his ranks tightly aligned on standards and sleepers alike from the classic American songbook. It’s a hop sideways to a time when the average person on stage dressed well and played better.
