One of OC’s newest dive-bar-turned-live-music-venues is making moves….to another dive-bar-turned-live-music-venue. Today Marty’s on Newport announced via Instagram that they’ll be moving their shows to La Santa, the recently re-opened Downtown Santa Ana club that already hosts live music of multiple genres several times a week. The news came after Marty’s suddenly changed their IG account to “@lasantaoc” last night. This afternoon, the venue–owned and operated by former Observatory talent buyer Jeff Shuman–posted a message to its customers who’ve been cramming into the venue for nearly a year to see big artists like Ozomotli, X, and DJ Quik.

“MARTY’S ON NEWPORT SHOWS WILL BE MOVED TO A BIGGER / UPGRADED VENUE, LA SANTA IN DOWNTOWN SANTA ANA! COME SAY HI AT OUR NEW HOME 220 E 3rd St. Santa Ana CA STAY TUNED FOR MORE EXCITING NEWS!” the post reads.

Concerns over the venue’s sustainability considering the size of its acts in such a small space are a frequent topic of discussion on the venue’s various social media accounts. However, the true nature of why the venue is calling it quits at this location have not been made public. One thing’s for sure, this is definitely a favorable move for La Santa, which will no doubt absorb more than their share of Marty’s sold out shows which are currently on the calendar, not to mention the clout it’s earned as a venue since it opened its doors last May. Sources tell us that Mike Rouse, former GM of Observatory, manager of the band X, and co-owner of Marty’s, still part owner of the venue though he and Shuman are no longer partners. According to the venue, all tickets purchased for shows at Marty’s previous location will be honored. We’ll keep you posted on more as it develops…

  1. What the fuck. It would be nice to get an email since I bought tickets for a show in March and made table reservations! Shitty way to let your customers know. I won’t be buying tickets from these owners again.

    1. If you’ve been to any of their related venues it makes sense. You got to take the negative with the positive because they get amazing acts in small venues.

  2. If the singer of the show tonight 3.1.19 would not have told me the location had changed I probably would have ended up showing up at Marty’s. Hopefully they start telling people on time for their future shows. Hopefully it is a better choice of location….

  3. Apparently the venue made a notification on 2/14/19 for a show on 2/15/19. I called La Santa to find out about this situation and I was left on hold for quite some time to “find someone” to talk to about this new show at their venue and they were trying to find someone from Marty’s to tell me what was happening. That day was pouring rain and the person at La Santa said they moved the show for Gethen Jenkins outside under a tent. The rain was horizontal that day and an outside concert did not sound desirable. I contacted TicketWeb where I bought the tickets and they said the venue refused to refund my money for the show that changed venues and I was then told it was an outdoor concert. Crappy communication and ultimately disappointed to waste money on tickets that weren’t used. Get it together.

  4. I just bought tickets for Low for March 12th for Marty’s Tustin and when I clicked “confirm purchase” it suddenly popped-up La Santa in Stabba Ana – No thanks, disputing the purchase NOT going to risk the life of my wife & I, even for Low…
