What does a musician do when they've, finally, done it all? Booker T. Jones, inductee to both the Musicians Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and, around some dinner tables, thought to be the man responsible for bringing modern soul to record players across the country, brings his astonishing career full orbit and returns to the label that started it all: Stax. With a new album out on his old record label, Booker T. headlines the Memphis Music Fest at the Cerritos Center tonight with help from chart-topping R&B group The Bar-Kays, soulful vocalist William Bell, Eddie Floyd (“Knock on Wood”) and Jean Knight (Mr. Big Stuff). Go for the gathering of iconic soul musicians—or just go for the live shredding of “Green Onions.”
