Extreme Projectiles

There is something super-unsettling about the magnitude of mystery fluids and metal that is making its way to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. If I were a parent, I would for sure skip the Irvine Spectrum's Ferris wheel on Saturday, for fear the kids would end up with There's Something About Mary makeovers courtesy of the GWAR stage antics and projectile spew flying over the 405.

Regardless, the Hot Topic-promoted, alternative to Clear Channel's Ozzfest, multiple-band lineup of the Sounds of the Underground's third tour should make metal fans raise their devil horns. Orange County hessians will have no shortage of fury fuel with big names such as GWAR, Suicidal Tendencies, Shadows Fall, Chimaira and Every Time I Die. Plus, there will be up-and-comers such as Arizona's kick-ass death-metal group Job for a Cowboy; the Viking-inspired, Swedish foursome Amon Amarth and San Jose's grindcore band Heavy Heavy Low Low (who apparently also like to spit stuff at the audience).

Any hip-hoppers preparing to brave the black leather, steel toes and eyeliner to see metal-influenced rapper Necro, just make your way to Craigslist to hock your tickets. Rumor has it (i.e., comments posted on Necro's MySpace page) that he has dropped off the tour due to a less-than-warm reception—yeah, you think?

Anyhow, all you metalheads enjoy, and be sure to be nice to any Necro fans who missed the memo . . . and maybe pull them up front for the GWAR performance!
