Gettin' Made: Knit One, Cure Too

The holidays are supposed to be about sharing good will (and a boozy eggnog or two) with others – and it's always nice when you can use your crafty talents to help a great holiday cause as well! This Friday from 4-7pm, Spa Gregorie's and Mainplace Mall in Santa Ana are proud to host the second annual “Knit One, Cure Too” knit-a-thon.

Dozens of knitters dressed in pink Santa hats will assemble in the MainPlace center court to knit stylish scarves for the holiday season. The items will later be sold at award-winning locations of Spa Gregorie's in Newport Beach N Rancho Santa Margarita.100% of proceeds will directly benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The 2008 knit-a-thon was a tremendous success, bringing together over 80 knitting enthusiasts who produced over 250 scarves priced from $15-$30 each. This year, event organizers expect an even larger turnout.

“There's a huge underground knitting community that is unbelievably supportive of the cause,” says Angela Cortright, Spa Gregorie's owner and founder. “All of the beautiful scarves, hats and other items sold out last year. I just knew we had to do it again. Not only were folks getting an affordable and darling scarf for the holidays, they were helping raise money for an amazing cause.”

Among the crowd of knitters are survivors with heartwarming stories. These incredible women will also create pieces of their own to be sold at Spa Gregorie's. The knit-a-thon is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to come down and support the cause. “Many of us have lost loved ones to this horrible disease. Even the smallest gesture is an extra step towards a cure,” says Cortright. “These one-of-a-kind items are truly gifts that keep on giving.”

With locations in Rancho Santa Margarita, Del Mar and Newport Beach, Spa Gregorie's has been thinking Pink for well over 10 years. With various programs supporting breast cancer research, Spa Gregorie's annually raises $50,000 worth of donations for the cause. Their Greet The Day program strives to improve quality of life through bodywork for people in cancer treatment and recovery and also provides accredited oncology massage training for cancer patients. In addition to Greet The Day, Spa Gregorie's also boasts an annual cancer fundraising campaign and a staff payroll donation program for the cause.
