There aren't too many bands, at least to those with quirky sensibilities, as appealing as New York trio We Are Scientists. Just check out their official site–it features “good new jokes” on the front page, like “Between Judas and the Romans, Jesus got double-crossed!” and “What did the happy book say to his friend, also a book? 'We have a very good shelf life!'” There's also a “reviews” section, where the band members give their thoughts on such awesome things as “The Best New Names for Eagles” and “The pun-based sign at the Manchester Metro Premier Travel Inn front desk.”

So it's suitably exciting that WAS are returning to southern California on May 31 at Detroit Bar, just a month and a half after their opening day set at Coachella. Tickets are on sale today, and are $15.
Also coming to the Costa Mesa venue, as canny readers have no doubt figured out from the title of this blog: veteran, vastly influential, alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr. Around since 1984, they're releasing their ninth studio album on June 23–but three days before that, will be playing Detroit Bar. Tickets are $25, and also on sale now through the venue's Web site.
