TONIGHT: Lost Art and Abtract Rude at Blue Cafe in Long Beach

The life of a local hip hop artist is a saga that usually leaks its way into the inspiration of their rhymes, more so than any other genre. And in that regard, tracks by Rancho Santa Margarita emcee The Lost Art  is rife with true life tales. I spoke of him a while ago when he released his second album Escape From Lala Land last summer.

Since then, this sure fire lyricist has laid low, with not many shows to speak of. But tonight he plans to make the most of his time at the Blue Cafe, the Long Beach stomping ground of his hip hop crew Technically Sound.

The show, presented by OC hip institution Abstract Workshop, promises a cavalcade of performers for the nights underground festivities. That includes a tongue twisting set by revered LA mic master Abstract Rude. Lost Art will also be rapping along side local cats Rock Bottom and Rick Shaw, featuring Abstract Workshops resident hip hop/R&B utility man Judd Nestor.

But the night is about more than cryptic flows and gritty beats. DJ El the Mighty has committed his one of a kind beat set to the memory of Michael Jackson, spinning, chopping and mixing the hits with prime dexterity. DJ Eyeball will also be doing his thing as live graffiti artists add some extra color to the Blue Cafe. The music starts early at 8:30 p.m. and goes all night.
