Had he not passed away on Feb. 10, 2006, beloved hip-hop producer J Dilla would have turned 38 years young Tuesday.
In honor of J Dilla's birthday, his passing (Dilla
suffered from thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, although is official
cause of death is cardiac arrest) and his awesomeness, we are going to
post one must-hear track every day until Friday.
Happy birthday J Dilla and rest in peace!

Only 92 seconds long, “Mash” is one of the stand-out tracks on Donuts for a few reasons.
First, the piano hook is so smooth I want to drape myself in silk and drink mimosas all day. And that's saying something because I'm vegan and don't do silk (I do, however, do mimosas).
Next, the song starts off with a sample of Frank Zappa saying, “And now, you are going to dance like you've never danced before.” Amen to that!
Finally, the song takes a wicked left turn somewhere around the 1:20 mark into a 12-second digression that seems to have zero relation the previous 80 seconds before it. Why? Who knows? But those final 12 seconds are sick, so we don't have to ask questions. We just enjoy.
