We all know the folks at Portola Coffee Lab take coffee seriously–otherwise, we wouldn't have named them Best Coffee in 2011 and 2013. So when we found out some of their baristas are featured in a new Samuel Goldwyn Films documentary called BARISTA about the U.S. Barista Championship, we weren't surprised.

The film follows five baristas throughout the competition. In the main event, each barista must prepare espressos, cappuccinos, and a personally designed signature beverage for four judges–12 drinks total–in 15 minutes. The environment is cutthroat and the film intense, but there are moments of humor sprinkled throughout. Altogether, the film brings viewers side by side with the barista, where each drip and pour is felt.
